Description
Jefferson at Penn Quarters is a multiuse development on 7th and E and D streets, NW in Washington, DC. The new 35,000sqft of retail space, the 250 seat Wooly Mammoth Theater, 559 parking spaces and 405 new luxury apartment homes. The new development incorporates 13 historic commercial building facades. Several of the facades were dismantled, stored off site and reconstructed. Accommodation of new retail store front spaces utilized period design in the millwork.
Scope of Project
Interior Rough Carpentry Renovation:
- Wood work included the paint removal and restoration of 140 linear feet of wood cornice.
- Paint removal and restoration of 60 window frames, fabrication and installation of over 220 sashes with historic window trim.
- Construction of over 260 linear feet of wood storefront (Twelve Facades).
- Fabrication and installation of 23 architectural wood doors 2 ¼” thick.
- Structural reinforcement of joists on seven floors and the restoration of two wood stair cases.
Exterior Stone Cleaning & Restoration:
- Masonry restoration consisted of stone patching/replacement.
- Installation of 250 linear feet of stone base, over 6500 square feet of paint removal and cleaning of masonry surfaces, over 40,000 linear feet of tuck pointing (joint size ranged from 1/16” to ¼”), and over 400 square feet of masonry infill.
- The shoring of an existing façade, demolition of the bottom third and rebuilding of the footers/brickwork was also included.
